Zen-Sushi … yum

Posted on

It’s been a while I’ve been out here, but I’ve been busy doing something that is precious. Now, I am less busy and therefore, I can write. ok, if u got that, i can move on.

So, it’s getting nice out these days in Chisinau. Thank you!!! And naturally, restaurants and cafes that have outdoor seatings are very attractive. The other day I discovered a new favorite place right next to my old favorite place, Delice D’Ange. I love this cafe especially when I have to write papers for school work. They have free internet, good coffee and pastries and good atmosphere to focus in. Anyways, right behind Delice D’Ange I discovered outdoor seatings for Zen-Sushi restaurant. I went there because I like sushi, and I realized that it was a place where I can order from both the Delice D’Ange and  Zen Sushi!!!

This was a lucky day for me!

How is Zen Sushi you ask?

It’s pretty good, I’d say. I am the kind of girl that likes the raw fish – not the fried shrimp or noodle soup – when going to a Japanese place. And so, I have tried their sashimi, and liked what I ate. It’s not the best raw fish I’ve ever tried, but it’s good enough for me to want to come back, and that’s saying ‘it’s good’. The fish seems fresh every time, and I have tried a lot of sashimi in a lot of different restaurants!

The restaurant isn’t big but has a nice atmosphere. It has a cool feature of carousel around the bar that keeps going around with some menu items. (we never tried those because we never knew how long they have been enjoying the ride, u know). There are two or three guys working on the sushi right in the middle of the bar and if you sit at the bar you can see their work, which is something I like.

Zen Sushi doesn’t have a website yet, but apparently they are working on one.

It’s easy to find it if you know where Delice D’Ange and Pani-Pit is. It is right behind Pani-pit.

I have been to Zen Sushi three times now: once for lunch (today!) and two times for dinner. My husband and I go out to dinner around 7PM because we are getting old, but it has been really great because there aren’t a lot of people eating at this time so the service is good! Otherwise, I have heard that the service can be a bit slow here. Still, the food is good and if you like the noodles and dishes other than the raw fish, they are pretty good too!

Buffalo Steak House in Chisinau

Posted on

The Buffalo restaurant on Aleksandri 20 is a pleasant treat if you crave good steak. Other than their steaks, there are a lot of other good dishes and salads and wines. For me, how the place looks inside is a good reason to go there. Lots of windows make it really bright during the day. I have been there for lunch twice and really enjoyed it both of the times. I have been there once for dinner on a Saturday and it was a bit crowded for me but still the food and wine was great. We were recommended to try to go there for dinner during the week for less crowd and a more enjoyable atmosphere.

Last time I was there for lunch with the International Woman’s Club of Chisinau, I had a lot of fun taking pictures inside. I took pictures of pretty much every corner of the restaurant and am showing it below. However, there is one area that I am not showing here mainly because you must go and see it for yourself. The area is – the bathrooms! Take my word for it. Just go and see it.

Some info:

I don’t know the telephone number and I would put down their website, but when you click on it right now (end of Feb, 2012) it only says “hello wold!”.

There is some smoking at the restaurant so it may be smoky, but the services is friendly and there is plenty of space for kids to run around and stuff.

There is a kid corner for kids to go to also.

You can also buy raw steak and other meat products there for cooking at home.

It is a bit spendy.

and i don’t remember other info, so just go there and check it out.

I love Chisinau Tuesday – Chisinau in the snow.

Posted on

Today Chisinau was a flooding slushy mess. Even though it was beautiful outside you couldn’t really enjoy it unless you could fly. However, this is a sign of spring coming. . . I think. But, to be honest, I am not really ready for spring yet. Spring means doing some things that I planned to do during the spring and I am so darn busy right now that I can’t think about spring work.

Anyhow, I took a few pictures last week when it was very white and pretty outside. It’s tricky to take pictures in the snow, so I’ve been trying to figure it out. I don’t think I fully figured it out yet, but at least I practiced and got a little better at it.

So, with this slideshow I hope to pause time a little and linger a bit longer in the white beauty:

La Placinte – Family Style Restaurant

Posted on

On those days when we just can’t seem to motivate ourselves to make food, we order in from a few places, which includes La Placinte sometimes. I have never been fully satisfied with what I had ordered from there for delivery, but nevertheless, my husband convinced me to go to the actual restaurant for dinner with the kids.

And I was pleasantly surprised as soon as I entered La Placinte on Cel Mare street. I heard that La Placinte and Andy’s Pizza are both owned by the same person. So far in our settlement here, we noticed these two restaurants everywhere in Chisinau.

Inside of the La Placinte reminds us of mexican family restaurants in the US. The staff is friendly and the food comes fast, which is perfect for our kids who love to scream and run around if they are not eating. And the food tastes much better when you eat it there than when you order it. We have visited La Placinte twice so far and every time it was filled with happy groups of people. It is a fun place to go with or without kids.
